Essay 8

“Do you think Taiwan is a country in the world??” I look this question from Wefong café (English only) which is a good website let people can chat or ask questions by network. I see mach answers on this website, some answer is very professing, for example: I believe most people in the world view Taiwan as an independent country. Dinosaur 88 points out that Taiwan relies largely on the market of China. This I agreed with him, for that China is a "newly developed country" and has a relatively cheap goods and materials. I'm not surprised to see many companies in Taiwan move their factories over to China seeking for a cheaper working population. I don't know what you think, but in my opinion, a politically "isolation" from China is an important step towards independent. Yes we shares the same language, but many other countries shares same language such as English and French. Sharing a same language does not lead to a shared body politic. There are many tradition, custom which we have in common. But we have much more differences in culture and believes. You mentioned about tradition, but I see no respect of "tradition" from China. China has over 4000 years of history put down in writing, but look what happened now?! They are going to get rid of the traditional writing, and have simple writing instead! How do you suppose our off springs to read and understand China history with all those traditional writing? Are they going to rewrite everything with simple writing? You said that Taiwan have not enough strength to be independent? I believe Taiwan is already an independent country. You can see antagonistic opinion like : I think in the present situation , Taiwan , relying largely on the market of the Mainland , politically "isolated" , and sharing the same language , tradition ,custom with the mainland ,don't have enough strength to be independent . And how do you think about this question ?
